| Effective immediately, anyone who is looking to get a new Maine driver's license, a new Maine non-driver identification card, or even just renewing a current license will need to prove they are actually from the state.
People are now being asked to provide document with their legal name and permanent address on it to prove residency.
Anyone serving in the military or students attending college in the state of Maine are exempt from this new law.
Some specific examples are a tax return,
Paycheck stub, tax bill, document issued by a government entity, utility bill, rent receipt, college ID card with no visible signs of irregularity, school or college transcript
