WGME 13 and our partners know that our children are our future. Our Giving Maine Promise campaign gives hope to that future. We pledge to continue helping Maine’s children, youth and families. We want our children to be healthier, better informed, and safer. We know that people who share common values, united together, can produce uncommon results. The Giving Maine Promise program reaches out to the local community through different partnerships and initiatives.
Our efforts have stressed the importance of positive role models for our kids. As a result, more than 100 caring adults have volunteered to mentor a child. Our “Thursday’s Child” series, in collaboration with A Family for ME features Maine children who are in need of foster care or adoption. Since the series began in 2001, nearly 50 of our participants have found loving adoptive homes. Our young people deserve the opportunity to find success in life by furthering their education and graduating from college. The weekly “Learning Matters” series, sponsored by UnumProvident, demonstrates that learning can take place in both the young and old.
Through our involvement with the Children’s Miracle Network, we have raised millions of dollars for the Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital in Portland and helped hundreds of children receive the medical care they need. In 2006, over $930,000 was raised - all of which stayed right here in Maine.
